The other evening, as I was leaving the house, I noticed that the sunset was incredibly orange due to the massive amounts of dust in the air.  I thought that it would make some good pictures.  And I was right.  Also learned that pictures like these are not super easy to take.  First, the sun is bright!  (I know, duh!)  Second, it is very hard to get the camera settings right because of the brightness.  As the sun drops to the horizon, that brightness lessens just a little until it finally starts disappearing.  Then you have to be pretty quick on the settings or the picture just doesn’t turn out very good.  Anyway, here are a few of the pictures.  Click to embiggen.

First, a bird that buzzed me and landed in a tree across the street.

Just a bird

This picture is of a couple of trees in front of the last house on the street.  Nice, but not what I was going for.

Neighbor's trees

There is a field at the end of the street with some trees in it.  I had the lens between 350 and 500 mm for these, but they turned out pretty good.

Sun over the trees

Just touching...

Getting there

Peek a boo

I so love these colors

Almost gone

Good night!

And for you camera jocks out there, I used the Nikon D1 with the Samyang 100-500 mm zoom lens.  Most of these are at f/22 with shutter speeds ranging from 1/2500 sec at the beginning to 1/125 sec at the end.

Aww, A Butterfly (or, I suppose it could be a moth)

Sitting on the hood of the car one morning last week.

White Wingy Critter

It would not leave when I tried to get it to fly away so eventually I drove off with it still on the hood.  It made it to 48 mph.

Fun with Cat Food

I saw this at a local pet store and just cracked up, proving once again that I have some mental issues.

For Finicky Adult Cats

Um, what cat isn’t finicky?  And my cat is more finicky than this food can fix, because he will NOT touch it!

I actually made the bed this morning.  I know, shocker.  Later, I see that Crystal’s little dog has been up and around the bed.  Here’s the proof.

Yeah, I know, I could make fun of various titles.  Footprints in the Bed.  Or how about, Around the Bed in 80 steps.

Once again, proving what a nut case I am…

Walking into the office, I found this acorn on the ground.  I picked it up and realized that with the “hat” on it looked very scottish.  So, I drew a quick face on it and now it sits on Betsy’s desk as the service center mascot.

Beam me up Scotty

The Redneck Office

One of the ladies in the office was out for several weeks following an injury.  She finally started making it back in this week, but can only do a few hours per day, and still can’t sit very well for any period of time.  We “adjusted” her desk to make it easier for her to work standing up.  It actually is working out very well, even if it does look like something that a country hick would put together.  The key word here is “TEMPORARY”.

Don't works!

I quipped that I hadn’t played with building blocks since I was a kid!

Mary goes up to Father O’Grady after his Sunday morning service, and she’s in tears.

He says, “So what’s bothering you, Mary my dear?”

She says, “Oh, Father, I’ve got terrible news.  My husband passed away last night.”

The priest says, “Oh, Mary, that’s terrible!  Tell me, did he have any last requests?”

She says, “That he did, Father.”

The priest says, “What did he ask, Mary?”

She says, “He said, ‘Please Mary, put down that dang gun…'”
