I’m not used to this 8 hour work day stuff

   Posted by: John    in Work

As a result, I am tired tonight.  But it was a good day.  3 bug removals, but the last one has some underlying issues, like the motherboard is going to fail very soon…leaking caps around the CPU.

I think I am going to like this place a lot.  Got my key-card for the door, a laptop, and a good look at some of the stuff they do.  Actually, I think I am going to have a blast.

Bargain City

Posted by: John    in Fun Stuff

Karen went shopping early on Black Friday, but said she did not see very many major bargains.  Sure, stuff was on sale, but the sale prices were not really worth being up so early for.  After looking at the ads, I can see that the major bargains were on a number of high dollar items, like front loading clothes washers.  The regular little things were just not that cheap.  In fact, this sign seems to apply.

Thankgiving Supper After Action Report

   Posted by: John    in Food

9 PM, and the day of feeding is nearly over.  The poor stomach has been stuffed for hours as a result of continuously eating way too much.  However…this has to be one of the best Thanksgiving spreads I have ever put together.

Mary and Crystal are ready to eat

The turkey was moist and full of flavor.  This year I decided to put some seasoning on it.  I found a Turkey Seasoning  recipe and altered it some.  It really made a difference in the flavor of the turkey.  Stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, candied yams, green bean casserole, a small ham, rolls and croissants, olives, cranberry, deviled eggs…did I miss anything?  Oh yeah, the tofu stir-fry just for Crystal.

And yes, there was pie.  Pumpkin, banana cream and the best apple-caramel I have made yet.

Thanksgiving Pictures

Posted by: John    in Fun Stuff

We all know the famous Norman Rockwell thanksgiving picture, you know, the one where everyone is at the table, excited about stuffing their faces, and Grandma has just brought out this 80 pound roasted turkey.  You know, this picture.

Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving

One has to wonder…what if Rockwell had been a Southern redneck.

I guess they are still serving a bird for supper.

Happy Thanksgiving

   Posted by: John    in Sentiments

Happy Thanksgiving to all, and to all a good…feast!

Do remember to give thanks to God for the blessings we enjoy.  And remember…no matter what our circumstances are, there are numbers of others who fare worse.

And don’t beat up too many little old ladies while waiting in line for the Black Friday shopping debacle!

More on Row Your Boat

   Posted by: John    in Kids

An addendum to Row Row Row Your Boat…as done to me by my youngest daughter…

Row, row, row your boat,

Gently down the stream.

Throw the Grandpa overboard,

Listen to him scream.

Knowing that I am a first time Grandpa this week…note the way she said it.  Not throw your Grandpa, or throw a Grandpa…no it was throw THE Grandpa overboard.  And she was looking right at me when she sang it.  Nothing like being put in your place by an 11 year old.

Row Row Row Your Boat

Posted by: John    in Fun Stuff

The old kid’s song,

Row, row, row your boat,

Gently down the stream.

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,

Life is but a dream.

Well, here’s a way to sing it that I remember from when I was a kid.

Row, row, row your boat

Gently down the stream.

Throw your teacher overboard,

Listen to her scream.

Or,

Row, row, row your boat,

Gently down the creek.

Throw your teacher overboard,

Listen to her shriek.

I was sitting her with Ashley, and we decided that it wouldn’t work well with using Mother in there because you would get something like this.

Row, row, row your boat

Gently down the stream.

Throw your Mother overboard,

And she climbs back in and beats the crap out of you.

LOL

Spell Check is Not Your Friend

   Posted by: John    in Miscellaneous

It amazes me how many people can’t put together proper sentences and phrases.  I also don’t understand how so many people can’t spell properly.  Perhaps that is because I am able to spell words very easily.  At some point, some years ago, someone decided to invent a spell-checker for word processing.  It’s a cool idea, and it will let you know when you mis-spell a word.  It also is not your friend because the English language has lots of words are spelled differently yet sound the same, like too, to and two.

Here’s another example.

Acceptional spelling <-- Intentional mis-spelling

Oops.  The good thing is the word is definately spelled correctly.
